A Peek Inside MY Makeup Case...

I've been asked a million times about my makeup case. No, I don't have a room for my makeup (yet...wink, No, I do not have a suitcase for my makeup. I do, however, have what they call a train case. It looks like this...

It opens & folds out like this...

My little helper is showing off some brushes :)

I found my case at Wal-Mart for $30, in the makeup section. It's made by Caboodle. I love this thing. It has different compartments. It has holders for brushes. You can't really tell from the picture, but the bottom section is huge. I have 5 large palettes in mine, and there's still room for more. It also locks, so you can travel with it. If you're a makeup fan, like me, go get one of these!!

My Favorite Oscar Looks...

Let's be honest, I could care less about who wins. I watch movies for entertainment value. I don't watch the kinds of movies that make you think, "Wow. This one is going to win best picture this year". I love comedies, the kind with stupid humor, not the kind that win Oscars. I do however, LOVE Oscar fashion & beauty. The most glamorous women in the world dress up like Barbie dolls, & we get to watch with envy. I'm excited to watch Fashion Police tonight to see what Ms. Joan Rivers has to say. But for now, here's my opinion...

Best Dressed-

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein

STUNNING!! Not your conventional Oscar look, but I love this!! I love that she did super-straight hair, simple makeup, simple jewelry (the earrings are to die for), and she let the dress shine. So gorgeous!! Can't take my eyes off this dress!!

Best Hair & Makeup-

Reese Witherspoon

GORGEOUS!! This woman can do no wrong, at least in my book. She really embodied old Hollywood glamour on the red carpet. Her eyes? Ugh. I'm dying. They look amazing. And that hair? Perfect. This is what a ponytail should look like.

Hey strangers!! It's been a long time. Thankfully, I'm back. I really missed you ladies!! I spent the better part of this week super sick on the couch. I've had a fever, a sore throat, a runny nose, a couch, and an ear infection. I wasn't sure if i was going to make it there for a I started feeling better just in time to head to the WV State Wrestling Tournament with my little family. I was going to blog at the hotel, but I couldn't figure out the wi-fi.

Here we are, enjoying the action :)
Here's a better shot of Odin. He was so good. He made a lot of new friends, and had a lot of fun :)

I was able to sneak away from the action long enough to do a little makeup shopping. I hit the MAC counter in WV. It's located at Macy's at the Barboursville Mall, just outside of Huntington. I decided to purchase a new eyeshadow in a fun color. I've been in a color rut, only buying neutrals. I needed something new & exciting in my life. I went with Plumage.
It's a matte, peacock blue color. It (like most MAC products) is highly pigmented. It goes on smooth, and and blends easily. I wore this color on Friday to the tournament. It was so hot in the arena. With a little Too Faced Shadow Insurance, it stayed put & the color was vibrant all day. I received several compliments on it. It's a beautiful shade of blue. This is the way blue eyeshadow should be worn, not like that horrible light blue color from 1975.  You can find this at for $14.50.

My Secret to Smooth, Straight, Shiny Hair...

Paul Mitchell's Smoothing Super Skinny Relaxing Balm. My wonderful hair dresser (love you, Miss Sarah), turned me on to this back in November. I don't know how I survived for so long without this product. My hair is naturally wavy. So, when I want to wear it straight, this is my go to product. It helps relax my waves, controls frizz, smooths, shines, cuts down on drying time, and helps protect against heat. It has a light scent, but it doesn't seem to last. It's a lightweight product, that doesn't make your hair feel all weird. I like that. The directions say to use 2 to 4 pumps on damp hair. I use 4 since my hair tends to be out of control. After you dry your hair, you can style it as normal. This product is truly a miracle worker. I found my bottle at Trade Secret for $16.99. I've been using it, at least 3 times a week, since November, and I have about 1/4 of the bottle left.

I Think I'm in LOVE!!

So, I was at Wal-Mart today, looking for some new nail polish. Instead, I discovered the world's greatest at home manicure. It will only set you back $8.50. It takes about 10 minutes. You don't have to sit and wait for your nails to dry.

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips are the greatest invention ever!! You get 16 little nail polish strips (in different sizes, so you can match them to your nails). You peel the plastic off, separate the polish strip from it's backing, press it to your nail, and cut off the excess. It comes with easy to follow instructions. The box says they last about 10 days. You remove them with nail polish remover. It's so easy & they look amazing!! I am really impressed. I'm wearing Collide-O-Scope. I also bought Laced-Up, which looks like black lace. I can't wait to buy more!!

My 5 Favorite Non-Makeup Beauty Items

Here is a list of 5 things I cannot live without. They're affordable, functional, and fabulous. Best of all, you can find them all at Wal-Mart. I took pictures of each item in my bathroom, with my iPhone. So, please excuse the poor quality. I hope you find this list helpful.

Crest 3D White Tooth Paste- My Favorite tooth paste!! This made my teeth appear whiter after one use, and it tastes great!! (around $4)
2.       Cocoa Butter Lotion- It doesn’t matter what brand it is. I can’t notice a difference between the name brand & the generic. I use this every day. It’s the only lotion that keeps my skin hydrated & soft. (around $5)
3.       Professional by Nature’s Therapy Heat Shield Thermal Spray- This is the generic version of Chi’s Iron Guard. I spray this on my hair after I dry it, right before I flat iron it. It keeps my hair smooth & shiny. It doesn’t weigh my hair down, and it has a very light scent. I can’t live without this stuff!! AMAZING!! (around $4)
4.       Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum- I’m almost thirty, so I’m trying to preserve my face for as long as I possibly can. Not that turning 30 scares me…crow’s feet scare me. I’ve been using this stuff for almost a year now. It’s gotten rid of a few tiny lines I had around my eyes. I highly recommend this product for anti-aging. (around $19)
5.       Goody Boar Blends Ceramic Brush for Smooth Styling- My sister turned me on to this brush. It cuts down on drying time, plus it adds shine & volume. This is my secret to good hair. Hands down, the best brush I have ever used. (around $12)

The Best Thing You Can Wear on Your Face...

It isn't some fancy moisturizer. It isn't any kind of makeup. It's free, and everyone has one. It's a...

Who doesn't love being greeted by a great, big smile? Seeing some one's face light up always make me feel better. An unknown author once said, "Smile- it increases your face value." It's so true!! Whether you just rolled out of bed, or you have a full face of makeup. A smile always makes you look like a million bucks. Smiling releases endorphins and makes us feel better. Smiles are also proven to make a person appear more attractive. Humans are able to differentiate between a real smile and a fake smile by seeing the difference in a persons eyes, so be genuine!!

"Today, give a stranger one of your smiles.  It might be the only sunshine he sees all day."  ~Quoted in P.S. I Love You, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Review: St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse

This product is to die for. Seriously. I've been self-tanning since high school. This is the first tanner I've used that dries in 60 seconds, it doesn't streak, it doesn't have that awful fake tan smell, and it looks so natural. This product does not contain glitter or shimmer like a lot of tanners. It contains aloe, so it won't dry out your skin. It's dark brown in color, so you can see exactly where you're putting it. I put it on twice a week, right after I shower. I start with my face & neck, I do my chest, then my legs, and come back & do my arms. I've found that's the best order to do it in. I put on my eye cream & moisturizer immediately after, then my make up. I've never had any steaks. The only thing is, if you don not wear gloves, you must wash your hands after every body part. No body looks cute with brown palms. I was going to do a before & after for you guys today, but I haven't been feeling well. I promise, I'll post that soon. You can find this product at for $40.

My Favorite Wal-Mart Beauty Find

As a diehard Sephora girl, I don't usually browse the makeup isles at Wal-Mart. Occasionally, I'll need to kill some time, and I'll find myself looking at random cosmetics. One day, while shopping with my mom & grandma, I went looking for some lotion. I eneded up staring at the Revlon display instead. For some reason I was drawn to their matte lipstick collection. I'm not a lipstick girl, at all. I tend to wear drag queen eye shadow, & I feel like a dark lip would be a little much. Chapstick is my daily go to lip wear. Anywho, I looked at the top row, and there it was. The color I had been searching for for months....

Nude Attitude (001). A completely matte, nude lipstick that was the perfect shade. This shade looks fabulous with a smoky eye. It also looks great on it's own. It's not one of those colors where you HAVE to wear makeup. My mom picked up this color as well, & she loves it as much  as I do. It run around $8. It stays on quiet well, I was impressed. The only con about it is if your lips are even the slightest bit chapped, this does not look smooth at all. Other than that, it's a great product, a great shade, and a great value.

My Favorite Bronzer: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder

I rarely wear blush. I am more of a bronzer kind of girl. I love having that sun-kissed glow. I'm pretty sure I've tried every drugstore bronzer that's out there. The majority of them are caked with glitter, or they make you look like an Oompa Loompa. I was so excited when I found this bronzer at Sephora...
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzing Powder is AMAZING!! It's the first true matte, non-orange bronzer I've come across. It  neutralizes redness, and evens out and enhances all skin tones. Plus, it's made from real cocoa powder, so your face smells like chocolate. Trust me, it smells delicious. My favorite thing about the packaging is the mirror. It reads, "Why be pretty when you can be gorgeous?" So cute!! This product is great for contouring & giving you that subtle summer glow. You can find it at Sephora or the Too Faced website for $28. It's a bit pricey, but defiantly worth it.

As a small town girl, I lust after couture makeup looks. I would LOVE to have the courage to wear some of there crazy looks, but I'm not sure what people would say when I show up at Wal-Mart in my crazy makeup and sweatpants. Odin might like them. He'd probably really be the only one to see me all dolled up. I'd be the best looking mama on our living room floor! LOL!!
What am I lusting after at the moment?
Oh, yes!! I've been obsessed with these bad boys ever since I say them on the Sephora website last week. Who wouldn't want to have small gingham bows dangling from their lashes?! I am extremely temped to buy them. I figure it's a good way to spend $19. I think I might be able to pull them off. Here's what the Makeup Forever model looks like with them on...

Hot, right?! Keep an eye out, you just might see me rocking this look soon!!

A Little About Me...

That's me!! 27 year old wife, stay at home mom to a healthy 10 month old son, and avid makeup lover. I have not had any professional training...yet. I've always loved makeup. I always thought about going to school to become a professional makeup artist. But being from a small town in the middle of West Virginia, there isn't a big market for makeup artists. So, since I was about 4, I've been doing makeup for fun. I was the girl in high school who got made fun for experimenting with makeup. I've never been afraid of color. I like looking different every day. I think that's the fun part of being a girl. I spend a lot of time researching new makeup trends & trying them on myself. I don't really have anyone around here to share my findings with, so I thought I'd start a blog. When my son starts pre-school, I plan on getting some formal training. Until then, I will just share my thoughts, reviews, hopes, and dreams with all of you!! Hope you enjoy reading this as much as I love writing.

Review: Too Faced Shadow Insurance

I've tried a ton of eye shadow pimers. This, by far, is the best one. A little dot of this will cover your entire eye lid. It's light weight, non-greasy, and it works with all types of eye shadow (cream, powder, etc.). Your eye shadow will not crease or run. I wear a ton of eye shadow (like, drag queen and with this product, it stays put. My eye shadow looks perfect in a snow storm or after a great workout. You can get Shadow Insurance at Sephora, Ulta, or right from the Too Faced website. It's reasonable priced at $18, and since a little goes a long way, it will last quite a while. I give this product an A+!!

Review: Buxom Lash

I've tried a billion mascaras, no joke. This is the only one I have purchased more than once. And, unless the world comes out with some super mascara that makes your lashes grow instantly, the only one I will buy. Period. It isn't waterproof, but it doesn't smudge. I've cried several times while wearing this, and it does not budge. It makes your lashed look twice as long. It doesn't leave little black eye boogers in the corners of your eyes. Even my mom purchased this after trying mine. She loved her waterproof Cover Girl stuff, but after trying this, she switched. Two thumbs up. This stuff is AMAZING. It's $18 at

Review: Urban Decay's Naked Palette

I have waited 2 months for this thing. Was it worth it? Yes. I love neutral colors. I also love wearing different textures of eyeshadow (shimmer, glitter, matte). This palette has it all!! The colors go on very smooth & stay put all day. They are highly pigmented & will look beautiful on all eye colors. My set came with the 27/7 double-ended eye pencil in Zero & Whiskey (the new palette comes with a brush). I LOVE Zero. It's kind of like a gel pencil & it glides on and stays there all day. I have not tried Whiskey yet. This set also came with a sample size Primer Potion eye primer. I have not used it yet either. I am partial to Too Faced's Shadow Insurance. Over all, I highly recommend this palette. The colors are gorgeous & everything about it is high quality. It was $44 (plus $5 shipping) from
