Beautiful Disaster...

Beautiful Disaster
By: Jamie McGuire

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend America, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the charming college co-ed. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his charms, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’ apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

I have been such a romance novel book nerd lately. This one was a little different, in that it wasn't racy & didn't require a glass of Moscato to read it. I really enjoyed this book. It was different than I thought it would be. Lots of twists & turns. For anyone wanting to get away from the normal, trashy novels, check this one out. It is a well written breath of fresh air...two thumbs up!!

Bared to You: A Crossfire Novel...

Bared to you
by: Sylvia Day Book Description:

He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I'd never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily...

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other's most private worlds...and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...

I read this book as soon as I finished the Fifty Shades Trilogy. There were alot of similarities between this book & Fifty Shades of Grey. In my opinion, this book was written a little better. There was more dialog and less raunchy love scenes. If you love racy, romance novels, this one should be on your list to read. I am going to check out more of Ms. Day's books next!!

From what I understand, this series will also be a trilogy. The next book, Deeper Into You, is set for release in October of this year.

On The Island
by: Tracey Garvis Graves

Amazon's Book Description:
When thirty-year-old English teacher Anna Emerson is offered a job tutoring T.J. Callahan at his family's summer rental in the Maldives, she accepts without hesitation; a working vacation on a tropical island trumps the library any day.

T.J. Callahan has no desire to leave town, not that anyone asked him. He's almost seventeen and if having cancer wasn't bad enough, now he has to spend his first summer in remission with his family - and a stack of overdue assignments - instead of his friends.

Anna and T.J. are en route to join T.J.'s family in the Maldives when the pilot of their seaplane suffers a fatal heart attack and crash-lands in the Indian Ocean. Adrift in shark-infested waters, their life jackets keep them afloat until they make it to the shore of an uninhabited island. Now Anna and T.J. just want to survive and they must work together to obtain water, food, fire, and shelter. Their basic needs might be met but as the days turn to weeks, and then months, the castaways encounter plenty of other obstacles, including violent tropical storms, the many dangers lurking in the sea, and the possibility that T.J.'s cancer could return. As T.J. celebrates yet another birthday on the island, Anna begins to wonder if the biggest challenge of all might be living with a boy who is gradually becoming a man.

When my friend, Amanda, reccomended this book to me, I had no idea it would be so captivating. I read the entire thing within 6 hours. As soon as I'd put my Kindle down, and start thinking about what was going to happen next & have to pick it right back up. It's so different, and so unexpected. If you are big on romantic novels, this is a must read.

My Own Personal Book Club...

Like many of the book loving, lonely housewives in the country, I decided to start reading the Fifty Shades Trilogy. Oh, boy. What a read. I finished all 3 books in less than a week. I had heard they were racy, but as a 28 year old, married mama with a husband who works out of town, I decided I could handle it. The 1st book, Fifty Shades of Grey, made me blush...more than blush at times. I will be honest, I didn't know what some of the activities I Googled. Oh, jeez. But, since the first book ended the way it did, I HAD to read the second one.
Fifty Shades Darker was a bit more relaxed in the sexual sense...a bit more romantic, if you will. I took me by surprise. I didn't see it twisting & turning the way it did. I read this book within 24 hours. It was by far my favorite. Of course after I finished this one, I had to move on to book three...
Fifty Shades Freed cleared up all of my questions & had a few surprising quirks of it's own. With the way it ended, I can only hope & pray E. L. James will continue writing about Christian & Ana. I would love to see this book through his eyes, rather than hers.
Overall , it was an amazing read. I highly recommend to those women who want to read about a life completely different from their own. It was a very nice escape from reality.

Now back to the real world...

Back From My Break...

I know it's been a little while, but mama's back!! I took a little break from blogging to focus on a new career path. It started out as a crazy thought, but it turned into a passion. I am now a cake decorator. I've been taking class & putting my knowledge to work at the Dairy King. I am having such an awesome with it. And crazy enough, I'm pretty good at it. So, that's where I've been, but know I'm back & ready to start discussing beauty again!! :)

I was at Meadowbrook Mall the other day, buying Odin some summer clothes. I decided to walk through Marshall's. Since they have a little bit of everything, I decided to check out their beauty isle. That's when I saw it...The Balm Cosmetics. I was so excited, since the only place I've seen The Balm was Sephora. They had a few gift sets, so I decided to pick one up. Here's what it contained:

Bahama Mama Bronzer

Stainic Lip Stain in Beauty Queen

Cheater Mascara

Hot Mama Blush

and Time Balm Primer

The lip stain itself sells for $17.00 at Sephora. I got the entire kit (all full sized products) for $12.99!! All of the products are great. If you are into great makeup, but don't wanna pay Sephora prices, get to Marshall's & pick up this kit ASAP!!

The Kardashian Smoky Eye...

Are you mesmerized by that Kardashian smoky eye? You know, the one Kim, Kourtney, and Khlo√© wear at a club, to lunch, to name it. Here is how you get the look:

Line your upper and lower lash line with black pencil, winging the line beyond the outer corners of the eye. Don't worry about making the line too perfect. Smudge it with a cotton swab.

Choose a matte black shadow for lots of drama, or a shimmery medium gray for pared down glamour. Makeup artist Diane Kendal suggests holding a folded tissue under your bottom lashes to catch any flakes of shadow. The color should be darkest in the crease and along your lashes, so apply shadow to those areas first. Begin painting the lash line at the outer corner, and use small feathery stroke. Then, blend the shadow over the rest your lid using a brush.

The Kardashians top off their smoky eyes with gobs of fake eyelashes. Pick a set that includes different lash lengths, and curl your natural lashes before applying.  After the lashes dry (which takes about five minutes) apply mascara for a really lush effect.

5 Tricks To Make You Look Younger-- NOW!!...

Overly made-up skin is a one-way ticket to looking a lot older than you actually are. If you have dark circles or some sun spots, dot a tiny bit of concealer on the inner corners of your eyes or on those spots, not all over the place. And while letting your skin show through may seem counterintuitive, the more skin you can see, the better. As long as it is well-hydrated, fresh skin looks much more youthful than an obviously covered complexion.
Tinted moisturizers with luminescent particles or lightweight liquid foundations are best for lined skin. Unlike pressed powder, which settles into wrinkles and makes the skin look even older, a light-reflective liquid formula creates the illusion of a glowing complexion. To apply foundation flawlessly, use either a damp sponge or a foundation brush to dot it all over your face in tiny amounts. It's a good idea to use powder to set it so it doesn't smear into lines. Just dust on a loose translucent formula, avoiding the eye area completely.
An eyelash curler, shimmering shadow, mascara, and brow powder can turn back the clock—at least temporarily. Curling your eyelashes and adding a little glimmery shadow as a highlighter are the easiest things you can do to make your eyes look bigger—and therefore younger. Look for the blackest black mascara you can find—it will make the whites of your eyes look clearer and whiter. And don't forget to define sparse brows (powder works best for truly skimpy arches). Thick, full, brows can take years off your face.
Nude lipstick and matte bronzer look lifeless on skin that's dull. Instead, a neutral rose color applied to the lips and the apples of the cheeks flatters all skin tones and really brightens it up.

Your natural lip line can begin to fade as you age, which makes lipstick more prone to bleeding. Tracing it with a clear lip liner can help lipstick stay put.
