Ladies, Would You Let Your Man Paint His Nails?...

Dean McDermott

Chuck Liddell

Look very close at the pictures above. Do you notice anything strange? I don't know if you can tell, but all 3 of the men above are wearing toenail polish. Yep, toenail polish. I don't know about you, but I don't find anything masculine about men in polish. I get that some guys have daughters, and they might want to paint daddy's nails. But guys, take it off before you leave the house. I know for a fact my husband wouldn't be caught dead in any sort of girly product. What's your take on this, ladies? Male or don't??

Naked Knock-Off Getting RAVE Reviews...

There it is. The Holy Grail of my  makeup collection, the Urban Decay Naked Palette. I wanted this thing so bad when it first came out. Sadly, so did everyone else. I would check online everyday, watching & waiting for it to come back in stock somewhere. I was about to spend $70+ for it on eBay. Thankfully, I got my email from UD just in time, and I was able to get it for the normal price. You all are in luck. If you want it, it's available at,, and
Now, you're probably asking yourself, "What's so great about that?" I'll tell you...I use this thing everyday. EVERYDAY. The colors are flattering on all skin tones. It gives you different textures...matte, satin, glitter, metallic. I love it. Sadly, mine doesn't look like the pic above anymore. I'm almost out of the color 'Naked' (matte taupe). I used it on my lid seriously everyday. Whether I'm doing a smokey eye or a simple eye, I use it. Thankfully, UD sells it buy itself (UD single shadows are $17 at or

I realize not everyone wants to pay $48 dollars for the Naked. If you love the colors, but hate the price, you might want to click here. It's the NYX Nude on Nude Palette.

(NYX Nude on Nude on top
UD Naked on you can compare)

The NYX palette comes with 20 shadows and 10 lip shades...all flattering on every skin tone. As you can see, the colors are VERY similar to the  Naked. I've been doing a little research for you guys...NYX palette is highly pigmented, smooth, and has staying power (according to some of my favorite gurus, I personally do not have this palette). Plus, it's half the price. The Nude on Nude is available at for $25.

**Please keep in mind, I do not own this palette, I'm just trying to find cheaper alternatives for you lovely ladies**

Hard Candy Matte-ly In Love Matte Top Coat...

I found this product at Wal-Mart a few months ago, I've been meaning to put it on here, but I kept forgetting. This is a fun way to switch up any shade of polish. It's super easy to use, and very affordable (around $5). There's not too much to say about it, it's really self explanatory. You polish your nails, then put a coat of the Hard Candy Matte-ly in Love over top & TA-DA...fancy nails!!

Fashion Friday: 6/17/11...

Now that Odin is getting older & doesn't need all that baby stuff, I'm in the market for a new bag. Keeping with the Summer crochet/boho trend, I am not lusting for this. It's Coach's Madison Laser Cut Op Leather Large Sophia Satchel (that's a mouthful...$598.00 at Coach). This is the perfect Summer bag for a hip, fashionalbe mommy. It has enough room for all girly stuff, plus a couple of diapers and a sippy and function. Win!!

I understand not everyone wants to spend $600 on a bag, so here's a cheaper (but still adorable) option. This one is available at Target for $29.99. It's metallic on the top, and natural on the bottom...the perfect mix.

Review: Jergens Natural Glow Express...

I've been getting a lot of messages about self-tanners. Most girls don't want to pay $40 a bottle, so I've been trying out a few cheaper brands. I love the regular Jergens Natural Glow, I figured this one would be a good place to start. I got mine at Wal-Mart. This one is for medium to tan skin, they also have one for light skin. You get 4oz of product, and it will set you back about $7. The Express is designed to give you color in one day rather than 7 days, like the original.
I put this on Saturday afternoon. I didn't notice any color that night, but when I woke up Sunday morning I looked like I had spent a week at the beach. I tried to scrub it off the next day and the color didn't budge. It's Wednesday and the color still looks good. The only complaint I have is the lotion is white. You have to be sure to rub it in really well or you will get blotches. You also have to do a very thin coat. I went heavy on my legs & they looked a bit orange for a couple of days (I'm very thankful for maxi dresses). Other than that, I like this product, not my favorite self-tanner but I'd but it again.

How to Highlight and Contour Your Face...

Let's start with contouring (it's the dark brown color in the photo above).  When you contour, use a nice taupe shade or a deep bronze color. Try to avoid using most bronzers when you are contouring, you'll just look too orange. (The only exception is Benefit's Hoola Bronzer. It's a nice lighter brown shade. It's available at for $28.) When you tan, you do not go bronze in these places right? So use a matte taupe shade or a light brown matte blush.

1. The temple. The purpose is to make your face a little more oval in shape. As you might know already, the oval shape is the ideal shape for makeup application.

2. The nose. Try avoiding making your nose mega-narrow. This would completely alter your face. Imagine the shape and size of your face with a narrow nose. You will look too artificial! So use this technique just to define your nose so that you wouldn't look flat in pictures.

3. Cheekbones. This is my favorite part to contour. It really makes a lot of difference! It can make you look like you've lost 5-10 lbs! Hahaha! Just be careful not to pile it on, otherwise, you will look like you have a streak of dirt on your face. Just make it subtle and blend!

4. Jaw line. This defines your face more. It can easily disguise double chins and it really separates your face from your neck. It also adds shape to your whole face.

5. Eye Crease. The purpose of contouring this part is to create the illusion of depth in the eyes. It adds drama to any makeup, and make your eyes pop out and really 3 dimensional.

6. Inner corners of the eyes. Make your nose appear narrower and your eyes deeper by adding shadow on this area

Highlighting (the light color in the photo above) is used when there is a certain part or feature you would like to bring out or "highlight" or "bring focus to" when there are certain flaws you would like to take focus off of. Today, I used my new MAC Cream Color Base in Pearl ($16.50 at It was easy to use & it looks great!!

1. The central part of your forehead. This creates an illusion of an oval face because it highlights the central part of your face. You highlight your forehead to bring it out from the rest of your face.

2. Under eye and cheek triangle Disguise your tired eyes or dark circles with highlight. In this area, you can use a little bit of shimmer (but not glitter). The light reflecting particles reflects light so it gives your dark circles a lighter finish. This also brightens up your entire look. You want to bring out your cheeks, not make them recede.

3. Chin. This will bring out your chin area so that your chin is separated from your jaw line. Plus, this completes the oval-illusion we are trying to achieve.

4. Nose line. Highlighting the top narrow bridge of your nose will make your whole face appear more oval and a bit longer. Plus, this makes your nose look "matangos" so that it looks more, again, 3 dimensional. You want to make your best features come out. I cannot stress this out more.

5. Brow bone. This is the area between your crease and your eyebrows. By bringing this out, your eyes will have more depth giving you more space and "drama" to work with. Defining the eyes is important to give you that sophisticated and a put-together look.

6. Collarbone. Bring out your collarbones so that you appear slimmer! There is no other reason and purpose for this. Haha! When you do do this step, I recommend using a cream highlighter first before you top it with a highlighting powder. If you use powder alone, it will just get erased before you even step out of the house

And finally...BLEND!!!!!!! This is very important. You don't want any harsh lines.

**Please remember: this takes lot of practice. Chances are it won't look perfect the first time you try it. Don't get dicouraged, you'll get the hang of it!!**

You know I can't pass up a trip to Pittsburgh without stopping by The Mall at Robinson for a little makeup action. After a looooooong day at the zoo, my mind & body were slightly worn out, but I muscled through & here's what I came home with...

MAC Cream Color Base in Pearl ($16.50)
I've had my eye on this for awhile. It's a great highlighter. It's one of those products you can put anywhere on your face. I'm so excited!!

MAC Lipstick in Shy Girl ($14.50)
This is a neutral, coral-beige. I figure I have a large amount of nude shades, would one more really hurt? I voted no & got it. Besides, I don't have a coral-ish nude shade. That justifies it for me.

Bare Escentuals Buxom Eyeliner in Pearl ($14.00 at Sephora)
I needed a new white liner. It's quickly becoming my favorite beauty product. I haven't tried the Buxom one yet, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. It was the only white line I could find that didn't have a metallic finish to it. Stay tuned, I'll let you know if I like it or not.

and finally...

Sephora by OPI Nail Polish in Caught With My Khakis Down ($9.50 at Sephora)
This is from their Summer, Safari Luxe Collection. It's a beautiful fatigue green. It will go with everything, yet it's still edgy. I'm pretty pumped about it!!

Stay tuned for reviews on all my new products!!

Bye Bye Blonde...

I loved my highlights, but the inch & a half of grow out and lack of a babysitter made me rethink them. So, I decided to do something I have never done by home hair color. Don't get me wrong, I've had my hair dyed at home before, but my mom has always done it. My BFF told me about the new John Frieda Precision Foam Hair Colour a while back. She had a wonderful experience with it, so I decided to give it a try...

SUCCESS!! (Please ignore the fact that I did not fix my hair...O woke up from his nap.) This was so easy to do. I was pleasantly surprised. You mix the solution, lightly shake the bottle 5 times, and squeeze it to make the foam. Then, you apply the foam to your hair until it looks soapy. You wait 20 mins, then rinse. The dye doesn't stink. The gloves are high quality. It doesn't leave spots in your hair. It doesn't stain your skin. It doesn't dry out your hair. Plus, you only need one box of dye. Before I had to use THREE boxes of dye. Ridiculous. I even had some of this left over. This is an amazing product. I used color 6N (light natural brown). I got this at Wal-Mart, and it was only $12. If you're an at home hair dye kinda girl, go get this. It's amazing & super easy to use.

FASHION FRIDAY: 6/10/11...

I keep trying to convince my husband that I need these for our 10 year reunion. I'm dying to wear them with a long sleeve mini-dress. They're edgy, yet sexy. They come in 3 colors (taupe, black, and nude), a 6 inch heel, and a half inch platform. I am in love. You can find these (and a ton of other sexy shoes) at ($128).

How to Make Your Lips Look BIGGER Using White Eyeliner...

This is super simple. After applying your lipstick/gloss/stain, take your white eyeliner & trace your Cupid's Bow (the cute little dip in your upper lip) and the center of your bottom lip (as pictured above). Then simply blend it in. That's it. Super easy.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's post. I'm dying my hair with foam coloring. Review to follow!!

My New Favorite Nails...

Obviously, I've been obsessed with doing my nails. I thinks it's because it's Summer and I've been wearing more flip-flops than foundation. I promise, I'll take a break from nails after this post...

I took this pic right after I did them, so they look a bit messy. This is super easy & super cute. Here's what you'll need...

Get three colors of polish. I used (from left to right) Read My Palm & Ocean Love Potion, both from OPI from Sephora, and Skull & Glossbones from OPI. I started by painting all of my nails with the Skull & Glossbones, two coats. I let that dry. Then I put a little of the Read My Palm on the baggie. I used a makeup sponge to dab it onto the middle of my nails. While that was still wet, I dabbed Ocean Love Potion on tips of my nails, blending into the other wet color. Let that dry, then seal with a clear coat.

**Don't throw out the baggie. When the polish dries, just peel it off & throw it away. That way, you can re-use the baggie for more nail polish fun!!**

How to Make Nail Polish Out of Eyeshadows...

Sorry I didn't post yesterday, Odin past his sickness along & I was either in bed or on the couch all day. Hopefully, this post will make up for it...

If you have a crushed eyeshadow that you love, here's a great way to use it. You start by gathering up the following items: crushed shadow, clear nail polish, an extra polish brush (I cleaned one that was in some dried up don't want to ruin the brush out of your clear polish), and something to mix everything on (like a Styrofoam plate or anything you can use & throw away). Pour a little of the shadow on your plate. Then pour a few drops of the clear polish beside it. Mix the 2 together with the extra brush, and apply it to your nails. Super easy!! You can make all kinds of custom colors. Try mixing colors, too. If you have an eyeshadow you want to use that isn't crushed, just carefully scrape a little off. Hope this inspires you!! :)

MY 100TH BLOG POST!!!!....

Sorry I've been kind of a slacker lately. Jeremiah has worked out of town for 2 weeks straight and Odin has had strep throat. When O is sick, he lives on top of me. I haven't even had time to shower, let alone blog. Thankfully, the baby is feeling better, and Hubs made it home for a couple days...just in time for our anniversary.

There we were, two years ago today, back when life was I miss the days when we could just get by on love. Life was easy when all we cared about was each other. Now, I feel like we have more stress than love. He's gone for weeks at time. We have bills. If I didn't have Odin, I'd probably go crazy. My life isn't what I imagined it being when we got married. We found out I was pregnant 2 months after we said "I do", so Jeremiah did what he had to do. I quit my job, he started working 90 hours a week, and we haven't looked back. It's hard. If I have a rough day, I have to suck it up. I go to bed alone. I wouldn't wish my life on anyone, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Although we have our up & downs, I love my husband more than anything in the universe. I know he loves me, and that's all I really need.

This picture is more us. It's my favorite wedding/reception picture. I think our faces about sum it

**check back tomorrow for a nail tutorial**

Beach Hair How To...

I love the way ocean water makes my hair look. There's nothing better than beach hair. I wanted to share a quick recipe with you all, so you can bring beach hair to the country. Here's what you'll need...

An empty spray bottle...

bottled water...

A leave-in conditioner...

And sea salt.

All of the items listed above are available at Wal-Mart.

Start by putting a few tablespoons of sea salt into the spray bottle. If your hair is dry, use less salt. It will cause your hair to dry out & be brittle. If you hair is oily, use more. Next, pour in the bottled water. Use bottled water. Tap water can have yucky stuff in it. Then, squeeze in a little leave-in conditioner. This will help keep from drying out your hair. I used Garnier Fructis Color Shield Instant Color Sealer. I do dye my hair, so this helps keep the color. It also has UVA/UVB protectants. Finally, shake. This will mix everything together. Use this on damp hair, scrunch slightly, and let your hair air dry for the perfect fresh from the beach, awesome summer look. A product like this will set you back about $25 at Sephora, doing it at home costs less than $10.
